Our Mission
The Society serves as the reference point and link in the United States between Italy and its decorati resident in the United States. ASILM has long been regarded by the Italian Republic as the national organization whose membership represents the best achievements of Italians, Italian Americans and Italophiles resident in the United States.
The President of the Republic of Italy awards all Ordini Onorifici (Honorary Orders). They are internationally recognized, rooted in Italian history and culture…. and is a prerogative of Italian sovereignty.
Decorations are conferred in ranks for five Ordini Onorifici or Honorary Orders:
Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana (OMRI) or Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy
Ordine Militare d’Italia or Military Order of Italy
Ordine al Merito del Lavoro or Order of Merit of Labor
Ordine della Stella d’Italia (OSI) or Order of the Star of Italy
Ordine di Vittorio Veneto
ASILM seeks to enhance and strengthen traditional bonds of friendship existing between Italy and the United States. The Society is national in scope, international in nature and functions at the highest levels of chivalric, diplomatic, business and finance, educational, professional and charitable arenas.
The American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit provides a point of reference for Italy and the Italian American community regarding issues of importance and significance to them.
ASILM awards scholarships and makes donations to a wide range of cultural, educational, charitable and humanitarian charities.
